hirakawa

Today was a super fun day spent in another city of Aomori: Hirakawa! It’s the city next to Hirosaki.

I went out with someone I know from my town and her daughter! It was my first time meeting her daughter since she goes to school in a different city, but I’m so glad I did because she’s close to my age!

First, we went to an onsen (hot spring) called  Fukuya spa (津軽おのえ温泉 日帰り宿 福家).  Of course since it's an onsen, I couldn't take pictures inside, so there's a link for the website, which I also put below. I actually came here before after going to hanami in hirosaki, but this time we did the 日帰りhigaeri (day trip) set which came with the shampoo set, a yukata, and lounge access!   We had a good time relaxing in the bath and having tea and coffee in the lounge. We also ate yummy noodles and ice cream!  I highly recommend this place and the day-trip package. It was less than 1200 yen and lunch is also only about 500-1000 yen.

After the onsen we went to Seibien (盛美園), a beautiful and famous garden, and Seibikan, which is the historical house on the grounds.   Seibikan’s architecture is very unique since it’s half traditional Japanese and half western.  I think it was inspiration for Arrietty, the Ghibli movie.  There was even a picture and autograph from Hayao Miyazaki!  The garden was so beautiful and huge.  It would be amazing to see in the fall.

Then we went to the nearby Saruka park (猿賀公園)to see the shrines there.  One is the famous Saruka Shrine (猿賀神社).  Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the lotus flowers that are in the middle of the park surrounding the other shrine, Munakata (胸肩神社).  There are a lot of cherry trees as well, so it would be a nice place for hanami!  I lost my little treasure I got with my omikuji (fortune), but I learned that when you drop things you are also dropping your bad luck, which I really hope is true.
